Department of Extra Mural Studies and Distance Education

Set up in 1982, the Department of Extra Mural Studies and Distance Education is responsible for decentralising and disseminating the academic and cultural activities of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute.  The Department is presently functioning with a capacity of 35 members of staff.
 

While consolidating its current activities,   the Department aims  at developing and offering a whole gamut of award and non-award courses in all the areas of study under the responsibility of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, through conventional and distance learning modes.   It also organises a wide range of activities in the regional centres of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Youth and Women's centres and socio-cultural organisations in Mauritius and in the countries of the region both at educational and cultural levels.
